I'm not mental:
(Jane has been admitted to a mental hospital after the traumatic event of her husbands murder.)
Psychiatrist: Jane do you understand why you're here?
Jane: (nervously rocking back and forth, chewing on nothing, eyes wandering)
I didn't do it. Wasn't me. It wasn't me. I need to get back to my husband -- he'll be wondering where I am. (Starts laughing cynically) (stops suddenly -- eyes focused on psychiatrist)
(Whispering)
Wasn't me, wasn't me, wasn't me, wasn't me, wasn't me, wasn't me
I'm not insane, you have to believe me, I'm not mental. I know people say that I am, but I'm not.
(Angrily shouting, face shaking)
IM NOT MENTAL, IM NOT INSANE
(Talking calmly, accusing)
It was you wasn't it ? That's why you're talking to me.
(Jane stands, charging towards the psychiatrist, 3 security guards run in trying to restrain her)
WASN'T ME, WASN'T ME, WASN'T ME, WASN'T ME, WASN'T ME, WASN'T ME
A lively piece! Don't give away that the husband has been murdered - we need to start off convinced she is reliable and then lose faith.
